Moms, Sports, Gatorade ($100 giftcard Giveaway!)

A new WINNER CHOSEN! CONGRATS to Erica C! ). You've won the $100 Dick's Gift Certificate. You should receive an email with instructions to claim your prize shortly. Please respond within 72 hours. Thanks for playing everyone!

This is a sponsored post from BlogHer and GATORADE.
  • Driving back and forth to practice and sports events every day of the week..
  • Weekends spent on the bleachers, cheering for your team
  • Smelly socks, mud-crusted uniforms, sweaty kids
  • Time on the road, meals on the run, coolers full of food and drink
If all of these things having you shaking your head up and down, then you are probably a "Sports Mom", like myself! Yes, we know what it's like to devote our time and energy to our children and their beloved sports. Whether it be baseball, hockey, basketball, soccer, football or cheerleading, all of them take up a lot of time and energy from the entire family.

The reason why we devote our weekends and weeknights to such sports is because we know the payoffs:  Higher self-confidence. Positive goals and dreams to work toward. Exercise and energy spent on something that will benefit them. It makes them HAPPY! Sam participates in basketball, baseball, track and field and cross country. He finds all of them to be extremely rewarding, and as a family we are thrilled to be a part of them!

I was excited to discover a new website launched by Gatorade for Sports moms:  Gatorade Moms. It shows tips for moms for proper nutrition our young athletes need to perform to their very best, and stay healthy before and after the game. We all know who is responsible for making sure our kids get that nutrition-yep, moms! It is great to have a place to see scientifically researched facts on what our teen's bodies require to stay healthy. It is so important!

Some interesting things I learned from a survey from Gatorade about teen athletes:
  • 70% of moms are raising teens or tweens who participate in a sport (13 million sports moms!)
  • 75% of sports moms don't know that in order to promote muscle recovery their athletes should consume protein within 30-60 minutes post game
  • 40% of moms feel their teens don't get the proper nutrition to maintain the top of their game
  • 70% of teens show up to the game dehydrated!

I really loved these inspirational videos that show real sports moms who were a huge role in their children's success as athletes, helping them achieve their dreams and goals: Real Sports Moms. I just like knowing that other moms are in my shoes and making a difference for their kids.

Relax Your Baby DVD (Review) + GIVEAWAY! (CLOSED, winner chosen)

**Please note this company did not contact me or ask me to praise their product. Review done completely upon my own opinion!

Last night Henry woke up around midnight crying very hard. He was inconsolable and was completely not himself. He had done this once before, so we knew he wasn't sick. I think it was either indigestion or a night terror.

Nothing we did would calm him. We both had to get up early the next morning and I didn't know what to do. So I went on youtube and typed in "Baby lullabies" or something like that. I found the link to this video. The Youtube version had an ad over the video, so I went directly to their page and found the entire video (fullscreen version) for free. I started playing it.

Up popped this beautiful imagery and gently playing music (and some very odd looking flowers with baby faces that at first I found creepy!).  Within SECONDS, Henry stopped crying and started watching. The video was 7 minutes long, and I replayed it 3.5 times. He never made a peep. After awhile, I myself became calm and sleepy. Henry fell back to sleep.

I had to come here and praise this video, which you can buy in the DVD form (under $10 and well worth it) on their website HERE. Despite the creepiness of the baby faces, which are found throughout the video in flowers, on hot-air balloons, and in water bubbles, I think that's what caught Henry's eye to begin with. Someone knew what they were doing when making a soothing baby video! The other images (a train, ocean scenes with dolphins and underwater) were beautiful. This really saved us last night and I'm sure will again in the future!

And I'm giving one away to my readers! All you have to do to enter to win is:
-Post here telling me about the baby/toddler in your life (1 entry)
-Become a fan of this page(1 entry)
-Become a fan of my other blog Sunday Baker (1 entry)
-tweet or facebook about it (2 entries)

So that's 5 entries per person. Please make sure to post back here if you linked this giveaway or became a fan of the pages so I can give you credit.

I will randomly choose a winner this Friday, February 18th. Good Luck!
